Introduction to Wonderware ArchestrA System Platform
It is now July 2013 and over the next few months I will work extensively on a ArchestrA System Platform application. I will here present some of the problems and tricks that I found during my work. I start off with this introduction which I borrowed from the Wonderware website to give an idea of the differences and relationship between the terms. This article will be updated over time and you can come back regularly for new information.
Wonderware System Platform:
Wonderware System Platform provides a single and scalable platform for all the SCADA, Supervisory HMI, and MES and EMI Software Solutions needs of industrial automation and information personnel. At the center of the Wonderware System Platform is the "plant model", which is the logical representation of the physical processes being controlled and supervised. ArchestrA object technology makes configuration, logging, delivery and maintenance of real-time and historical information point-and-click simple. Within the System Platform is a high-performance process historian with production history archiving, efficient data compression and auto-configuration of historical archiving that eliminates duplicate effort and an industrial web information server that dramatically simplifies the organisation and delivery of operations information for use across all functions in your organisation.
ArchestrA System Platform:
ArchestrA System Platform acts as your "Industrial Operating System" by providing common services such as; visualisation, configuration, deployment, communication, security, data connectivity, data storage and management, people collaboration, and many others. These services allow you to build a single, unified "Plant Model" that logically represents your processes, physical equipment and industrial systems, even legacy systems, making the design and maintenance of these systems more efficient, more flexible and with less risk. The Plant Model also gives essential context to your data, greatly assisting with diagnostics and troubleshooting, as well as providing valuable system documentation throughout the system lifecycle. The Plant Model is unique to the ArchestrA System Platform.
The System Platform also provides a high-performance process historian with production history archiving and retrieval, along with an industrial web information server that dramatically simplifies the organisation and delivery of operations information to all functions within your organisation.
ArchestrA Open Architecture Technology:
ArchestrA is a comprehensive automation and information software open architecture designed to integrate and extend the life of legacy systems by leveraging the latest, open industry standards and software technologies. ArchestrA "industrializes" Microsoft .NET and other Microsoft technologies in order to provide an even more productive toolset for building critical operations management software solutions for manufacturing, production and facilities operations. The result exposes services needed by manufacturing and industrial infrastructure such as common name space, object management, industrial security, high availability and redundancy, plant connection, enterprise connection, client interface, web portal and systems management.
Utilising ArchestrA open architecture technology, applications can be rapidly assembled using software objects rather than being "programmed". Templates can be created for almost any purpose then used to build new applications simply through the reassembly and slight modification of these templates - saving time and lowering development costs. Offerings built upon ArchestrA open architecture technology empower decision-makers to achieve their business goals, without abandoning prior investments in systems, or intellectual property.
